New Life Discipleship Program |
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Cor. 5:17
Miracles happen every day at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Substance addiction victories, anger management, restored families and new jobs are just a few. But the best miracle of all is when a resident accepts Jesus Christ as the Lord of his life. This is the kind of reconciliation with God that the apostle Paul talked about in his letter to the Corinthians nearly 2,000 years ago (2 Corinthians 5:14-21). Those same words ring true today. The New Life Discipleship Program is a long-term program of intense Christian discipleship, skills training, counseling, accountability and character building. The 18 men who can be a part of the program at any given time are guided through six distinct steps: - Orientation – uncovering their needs for improvement and challenging their desire for life change.
- Seeker- helping them explore what it means to be a child of God by seeking Him through His Word, the Bible.
- Builder- helping them build a relationship with God through Christ, understanding how to grow as a Christian.
- Servant- giving them opportunities to serve God by serving others.
- Leader- becoming a role model and friend to other men entering the program.
- Extern- transitioning to offsite housing, maintaining financial accountability and counseling.
The New Life Discipleship program confronts life skill problems and addictions by defining specific biblical expectations for personal character through attitudes and actions, holding participants accountable for their actions. Eventually a transformation takes place: old negative habits slowly start to change into new and positive habits by the intentional renewing of their minds to understand, agree and accept those changes. New Life participants receive professional counseling to learn how to overcome their negative self-worth issues (issues that are a result of substance abuse or other poor choices they made through the power of Christ, not their own. We show them practical ways to learn financial management and how to relate with others in positive ways. Individual, couple, family and group counseling are all available. Volunteer Opportunities for our New Life Program include mentorship roles and drivers for court appointments. If you would like to help, please call 345-2974 ext. 234. |
